1935 Mercedes-Benz W25 Streamliner
For 1935 the AVUS-Rennen was split up into two heats and a
final. The Mercedes and Auto Union teams turned up with
several streamliners and Ferrari with an Alfa Romeo
"Bi-motore".

Hanns Geier raced a speed record car - which Caracciola
used to set new world records with in 1934 - a special W25
coupe with a cockpit that could only be opened from the
outside!

In the first heat a tyre burst on Geier's streamliner forcing him
to make a pit stop and he finally finished fourth. Fourth place
however meant qualification for the final but, after only three
laps of the final Geier’s Streamliner was out with carburettor
failure.

Fagioli eventually won the race followed by the Alfa Bi-motore
of Chiron and Varzi’s Auto Union.
