Le mans Winner!
1939 Gordini Simca Huit T8
The 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 16th Grand Prix of
Endurance, and took place on June 17 and 18, 1939.

This gorgeous little Simca Gordini Type 8 took both the 14th
Rudge-Whitworth Biennial Cup and won the Index of
Performance coming 10th overall in 1939.

The following year's 24 Hours of Le Mans was originally
planned for June 1940, but due to the invasion of France in
May the race was called off. Racing would not return to Le
Mans until 1949, long after the war had ended. In 1949 the
Gordini was raced again at Le mans (race No.50) but due to
clutch problems was a DNF on the 89th lap. 1949 was also
the first year the
Bentley 'Embiricos' competed at the event.
