| In 1935 this car was race both at the Tripoli Grand Prix and the AVUS Rennen. The Tripoli GP which was held on the Mellaha circuit, the fastest road circuit in the world at that time and Hans Stuck was driving the fastest car in practice a streamlined speed record car with an enclosed cockpit - an Auto Union Type A 'Rennlimousin'. Stuck's car caught fire at the halfway point and the driver in his closed cockpit was unaware of it for quite a while driving on with huge flames coming out of the rear of the car. When Stuck finally realized the situation the brakes had already gone and had great problems stopping the car. A shaken Stuck was finally helped out of the closed cockpit by nearby officials. The 1935 AVUS Rennen in Berlin was to see the debut of legend Bernd Rosemeyer in the Rennlimousin. This year the race was split into two heats and a final. Alas a high speed tyre failure in Heat 1 at the Nordschleife ended his race and he was lucky to be able to stop the streamliner without crashing, his debut race was over and Hans Stuck took the victory having led the heat from start to finish in his B type Auto Union.
